We started with the Halo Corpse Alphabet, moved on to movie scenes, and then tackled video game cover art. We haven’t pulled together for a community project in quite some time, and that’s because I am fresh out of ideas of things we can do. A few suggestions have been sent my way but nothing has seemed quite right yet so I’m reaching out to all of you for inspiration. Help me out please! What can we do next?

  1. hmmmm i think we should pull together and create one last charity event before odst comes out. As we are a screenshot community it can be somthing centered around screenshots and or art. Your thoughts?

    • I’d agree with Cuban Cat, a sort of ODST collection of screenshots based on trailer scenes, gameplay shots, etc.

Yes, I realize that I’m not a contributor to H3Screenshots (and I would if I could get Xbox Live) but hell, I’ll put in my two cents worth :D

But yeah, screenies based on ODST trailer scenes, or such.

    • I just wrapped up a charity event and need some time before doing another one. That’s a good idea though, and something I’ll keep in my back pocket for potential future use. :)

  2. How about real-life locations, or something like that?
Either by creating forge scenes to replicate a real-life place, or just an area of a level that resembles a real place.

    • I’ve pondered the same idea believe it or not but wasn’t sure people would be willing to make the extra effort of taking (or finding) a real life scenery shot as well. Hhhmmm, … I love the concept though. It has incredible potential!

      • Lol, I’m one of the people who wouldn’t take the extra effort. Mostly because I’m no good at forging. But I could look for stuff that doesn’t need forging.
        :)

I was thinking more of scenery shots with no/little forging involved. What do you think of that?

        • That sounds much better.
          :)
And more easily accessible to a wider range of players.

  3. So my scenery project doesn’t count? :(

    • That absolutely counts! I’m just looking for a community-wide project like the other ones we have done with multiple contributors. :)

      • Well I meant more of a group scenery group project based off my own. Like having everyone trying to get the best out of campaign through scenery shots, no effects :)

  4. It has to be based on something easily recreatable in Halo, and something that a lot of people have seen, right? Hmm…. We could do something like having to recreate scenes from Halo 1 and Halo 2…. or maybe scenes from Red vs. Blue… a lot of people have seen that…. I dunno. I’ll think about it. If I come up with anything else, I’ll be back.

    • I would say a Recon contest I held a while back is a bit too similar to your first idea (It was a lot of fun though! If you missed it, let me know and I’ll dig up a link.) Red vs. Blue is an interesting idea, …

  5. hmmmm how about we make a book?

    :My Idea:

We make a book almost like a picture book. We all submit a picture and write a little comment to go along with it. The length of the comment can be between one word – one paragraph. Than we send them off to someeone ( perhaps angle herself ) and we make a small book out of it.

The pictures can be anything related to halo/bungie. It can be perhaps your greatest screenshot, your best kill, a weird glitch, a mongoose mowdown anything centered around halo/bungie.

My thoughts were perhaps when we send in our picture/comment we send in a small profit (somthing under 5$) just to cover the fee for the book. Also whatever money we have left we can give away to a charity. Thats if we have money left over.

So in a nutshell its kinda a way of thanking bungie for all they have done over the year, and we could be helping out a chairty also. This is just a rough idea there are plenty of things we would have to work out. But i was wondering if the community would be intrested before we get into the finer details. Your thoughts?

    • I dunno, that seems more like a Bungie Day present than an actual project contained within this site. Save that idea for Bungie Day 2010, though.

    • That’s definitely something to file away for a bigger project. What an interesting idea, …

    • or if you want to do a book, every week just submit what the next page will be, and then the following page will be determined by who made the best current page to continue with the story

  6. How about those “impossible object’s” that has been forged lately. maybe something with them…

  7. How about a “most creative use of a…” contest.
Where people use different forge objects in their picture in a creative way.
Examples being the “cone man” screenshot for best use of cones…

    I dunno :|

    • I actually rather like this idea, Deaf Boy. That would keep community involvement because you could do a different theme each week. Week 1 could be “Most creative use of a traffic cone”, whereas week 2 could be “Most creative use of a Killball” or something along the lines. The only problem is you would need space for multiple weeks. It might be better to maybe change it monthly, get the creative juices flowing rather than cutting them off after 7 days.

      • I like your idea Deaf Boy and also Gashnor’s elaborations. Hhhmmm, … I wonder between every two weeks and every month what the optimal time frame would be.

        • Every other week would be best, I think, for something like this.
If it were any longer, than it could become too drawn out and people could lose interest.
          Great idea though!!

Every other week sounds good to me too. I think I’m going to start with the history-related project and then implement deaf boy’s idea in September as a regular activity. w00t!

  8. how about a contest where people recreate famous historic real life events. such as the iwo jima screenshot i’m sure every here has seen, or the taking of the Reichstag, the revolutionary war. and not just american history, people could branch out into maybe their own countrie’s history.

  9. ok…alot of ideas…which one will be pulled off?

i liked the fotoalbum idea like our halo life xD

  10. Album Covers? =] (example in my fileshare Pink Floyd)

    • lol. i would try to make the beatle’s abbey road album cover.

    • I like this idea as well! We’ll save it for a rainy day. :)

  11. hmmmm album covers is another idea i would be interested in, but i feel that historical events has won.

  12. hey, u can never have too many ideas XD

    • so true my friend =)

  13. i think we have a lot of people who want to make good screenshots but dont have the time or extra people on hand… just like lots of story lines that can be turned into machinima come your way but no one can gather enough people together in a lobby to actually do something

so how about make a group night where you take a suggested screenshot or machinima and make it? just decide a time and a gamertag and everyone who is willing to participate joins a party made by that person, and jumps into a game lobby and goes to work

    • for example the flag taken – flag dropped story from katonian press… lots of people agreed that it would be great to turn that into a machinima but i dont think theres any central leader to get everyone together and just plan it out and do it

  14. Hmmmm…

Maybe a collection of illusion pictures created by the community?
Like o0JakeOo’s impossible box picture. :]
